Abstract The article focuses on finding points in common between two scientific disciplines with a long history – foreign language teaching methodology and rhetoric. New perspectives of oratory and rhetoric heritage as well as opportunities to acquire language skills within an academic context (secondary and tertiary education) are discussed. The following teaching approaches are being viewed – role plays and simulations for persuasive speech, multimedia presentations and Web 2.0.
